Azure describes a bright, clear blue color, like a deep blue sky on a sunny day. As a noun, it refers to this shade of blue itself.

From Old French “azur,” from Arabic “lāzaward,” meaning “lapis lazuli,” a deep blue stone, which came through Persian. The initial “l” dropped in French, leaving “azur” for the color.
