Plural of badran; a type of traditional wind tower or ventilation structure used in Middle Eastern architecture to cool buildings.

From Persian 'bād-rān' literally meaning 'wind-catcher,' combining 'bād' (wind) and 'rān' (catcher). These structures became important in Islamic architecture throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
