Bagataway

An early name for the sport of lacrosse, used by some Native American tribes, particularly in describing the game played by Great Lakes tribes.

From Ojibwe or other Great Lakes Native American languages, referring to the stick-and-ball game. The name reflects indigenous terminology that predates the French 'lacrosse'.
