A creeping berry plant (Rubus chamaemorus) found in northern regions, bearing an edible golden fruit also called cloudberry.
From Old Norse 'bak' (back/behind) and English 'apple,' or possibly from Old Norse 'bakappel' directly. The plant grows in boggy areas of Scandinavia and Canada.
