Bangers

/ˈbæŋərz/ noun

British slang for sausages, especially those served with mashed potatoes in the dish 'bangers and mash'. Can also refer to old, unreliable cars or loud music.

Originally from the tendency of sausages to burst with a 'bang' when cooked, especially lower-quality ones with high water content during WWII rationing. The term became popular British slang in the mid-20th century.
