Relating to or designating the base of the hyoid bone, a bone in the neck and throat region of vertebrates.

From Greek 'basis' (base) + 'hyoid' (Y-shaped), referring to the anatomy of the hyoid bone. This anatomical term has been used in comparative anatomy and vertebrate zoology since the mid-1800s.
