Baviere

A decorative visor or protective face guard, particularly one used in heraldry or on medieval armor.

From French 'bavière,' meaning a piece of armor protecting the lower face and chin. The root may derive from 'bave' (drool) metaphorically applied to the mouth area, or possibly from Bavarian armor-making traditions.
