Belfry

/ˈbɛlfri/ noun

A belfry is the part of a tower where bells are hung, often in a church or town hall. It usually has openings so the sound can travel.

“Belfry” comes from Old French “berfrei,” originally meaning a wooden tower used in war, not bells. Because bells were later placed in such towers, the word shifted to mean a bell tower.
