Benzotetrazole

An aromatic compound with benzene fused to a five-membered nitrogen-containing ring (tetrazole), used in pharmaceuticals and coordination chemistry.

'Benzo-' plus 'tetrazole' (from four nitrogens in a five-membered ring). Tetrazoles were discovered in early 20th-century synthesis and became important in drug design.
