Benzoylate

To attach a benzoyl group (a benzene ring with a carbonyl) to a molecule, a common reaction in organic synthesis.

'Benzoyl' (benzene + carbonyl) plus '-ate' verb suffix. Benzoylation became a standard reaction in 19th-century organic chemistry.
