A decorative netted cap or coif worn by women in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, often with a rounded or puffed shape.

From Middle French 'biguine' or diminutive forms relating to early women's religious communities (Beguines). The term evolved through Old French and possibly Flemish influences, with -et suffix adding a diminutive sense.
