Billion

A billion is the number 1,000,000,000, which is a thousand million. It is often used to talk about money, population, or very large quantities.

From French “billion,” formed from “bi-” (two) + “-illion” modeled on “million.” Historically, some countries used “billion” to mean a million million, but modern English almost always means a thousand million.
