Blackband

A dark or black stripe or band of color, or historically, a type of iron-rich shale used in ironmaking.

From 'black' (Old English 'blæc') + 'band' (from Germanic roots meaning strip). The geological term refers to iron carbonate deposits found in coal-bearing strata.
