Blackwork

A type of embroidery done in black thread on white or light-colored fabric, creating geometric patterns, popular especially during the Renaissance.

From 'black' + 'work,' referring to the visible black stitching that creates the design; the technique became particularly fashionable in 16th-century Spain and England.
