An obstruction or something that prevents movement or flow through a passage or channel.

From 'block' (an obstacle or wooden cube) + suffix '-age' (condition or state of). Block itself comes from Old French 'bloc' (log or chunk), ultimately from Germanic roots. The '-age' suffix creates nouns describing conditions or actions.
