A variation of native PAGE that uses Coomassie Blue dye to provide negative charges to protein complexes without denaturing them. This allows separation of very large membrane protein complexes while preserving their native structure.
Developed in the 1990s by Hermann Schägger for studying mitochondrial respiratory complexes. The 'blue' comes from Coomassie Blue G-250 dye, which binds to proteins and provides the charge needed for electrophoretic separation without harsh detergents.
