A type of American folk music characterized by string instruments and harmonies, or a type of grass with blue-green stems.

Originally referred to Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis), named for its blue-green color. The musical style developed in Kentucky and took the state's nickname, becoming popular in the 1940s through Bill Monroe.
