Boerdom

The collective term for Boer people and their society; the condition, state, or collective culture of the Boers (Dutch settlers in South Africa).

From 'Boer' (Dutch 'boer' meaning 'farmer') plus the suffix '-dom' (Old English '-dōm' meaning 'condition,' 'realm,' or 'domain'). The suffix '-dom' created nouns like 'kingdom,' 'freedom,' 'wisdom' indicating a state or collection. Emerged in colonial South African contexts.
