Bolete

A fungus or mushroom with pores or tubes under the cap instead of gills, many of which are edible and prized by cooks.

From medieval Latin 'boletus', itself from Greek 'bolites' meaning 'that which casts or throws' (referring to spore projection); possibly influenced by 'bole' (swelling).
