Bookstack

A pile or arrangement of books stacked one on top of another; also, a compact shelving system designed for efficient book storage.

From 'book' (Old English 'bōc') + 'stack' (Middle Low German 'stacke', a heap or pile). The term became common in library science in the 20th century with the development of modern library systems.
