Braggadocio

/ˌbrægəˈdoʊtʃoʊ/ noun

Empty or exaggerated boasting; vainglorious talk or behavior that claims importance or skill without substance or justification.

Possibly from Italian 'bravaccio' (blustering) or a made-up name from Renaissance literature. The term became especially popular in English after its use in Spenser's 'The Faerie Queene' (1590) as a cowardly braggart character.
