a hairpin turn or a dangerous stunt, especially used in 'doing a brodie' to mean spinning a car around sharply.

Possibly from Steve Brodie, a New Yorker who allegedly jumped off Brooklyn Bridge in 1886 and survived (though this is disputed). The term became associated with reckless daredevilry.
