A chemical indicator dye similar to bromothymol that changes color based on pH and is often used in laboratory testing.
From 'bromo-' (containing bromine) + 'phenol' (an organic compound derived from benzene). Developed in the late 1800s as part of the phenolphthalein family of indicators.
