Having prominent or large eyes like those of a buckeye deer, or relating to Ohio (the Buckeye State).

From 'buckeye,' referring to the eye-like appearance of the buckeye nut (with its dark seed surrounded by lighter scar tissue). Ohio is named the Buckeye State because the tree was common there.
