Busycon

/ˈbɪziˌkɑn/ noun

A genus of large sea snails found along the Atlantic coast of North America, commonly called busycon whelks or conches.

From Latin 'busy' (perhaps from the snail's active behavior) combined with Greek 'konē' (cone), referring to the shell's cone-like shape. The scientific name was formalized in the 18th century by naturalists studying marine mollusks.
