Plural of cache; multiple hidden or stored supplies of food, equipment, or data, or secret hiding places used to store valuable items.

From French 'cache,' derived from 'cacher' (to hide), which comes from Vulgar Latin 'coacticare.' The term was popularized by fur trappers and explorers who would leave supplies at remote locations for future journeys.
