Calendula

/kəˈlɛndʒələ/ noun

A plant of the marigold family with bright orange or yellow flowers, often used in medicine and cosmetics for its healing properties.

From Latin calendula, possibly from calendae (calends/first day of the month) because the plant bloomed around the new moon or beginning of months. Medieval healers called it 'plant of the calends.'
