Canacuas

Plural of canacua; a type of large tropical American aquatic bird (also spelled 'canacua' or 'anaca').

From Portuguese 'canacuá' or 'canacuã,' derived from indigenous Tupi or Guaraní words for the bird. The term entered European languages through colonial contact with South America.
