Canebrake

A dense thicket or impenetrable tangle of cane plants, particularly referring to bamboo or large reeds growing together.

From cane (from Greek kanna via Latin) + brake (from Old English bracu meaning 'thick growth' or 'thicket'); this is a distinctly American term, especially for Southern thickets.
