Cardigan

/ˈkɑːrdɪɡən/ noun

A knitted sweater that opens at the front, usually with buttons or a zipper.

It’s named after James Brudenell, the 7th Earl of Cardigan, a British army officer in the 1800s who supposedly wore this style of sweater. His title came from the town of Cardigan in Wales.
