Something that is soft and pleasant enough to touch or stroke gently.

From 'caress' (to touch tenderly), derived from French 'caresser', from Italian 'carezzare', possibly from Latin 'carus' (dear, beloved). The suffix '-able' means 'capable of being' or 'suitable for'.
