Caribous

A variant or archaic plural of caribou, the large deer-like animal found in Arctic and subarctic North America.

From French 'caribou,' which came from the Mi'kmaq (Algonquian) word 'qalipu.' The -ous suffix here is a variant plural form used in older English, before the modern standard 'caribous' or 'caribou' became fixed.
