Caruncle

A small, fleshy, wart-like growth on a plant or animal, often found on birds or seeds.

From Latin carunculum, a diminutive of caro meaning flesh. The term entered English in the 17th century to describe small fleshy outgrowths, particularly the red tissue at the inner corner of the eye in birds and mammals.
