A fish belonging to the sucker family Catostomidae, bottom-feeding freshwater fish found primarily in North America.

From Catostomidae (family name) + -id (member of a group). The family name derives from Greek 'kata' (down) + 'stoma' (mouth), referring to the downward-facing sucking mouth.
