Celtuce

A type of lettuce with an edible thick stalk rather than leaves, also called stem lettuce or asparagus lettuce.

From celery + lettuce, blending these two plant names. Created in the 20th century as a descriptive name for this hybrid-like cultivar that combines traits of both vegetables.
