Chafers

/ˈtʃeɪfərz/ noun

Plural of chafer; either small heating devices for warming food or drink, or large shiny beetles from the family Scarabaeidae.

From Old French chaufer (to warm), Latin calefacere (to make warm). Later, the term was applied to the iridescent beetles, possibly because their metallic appearance resembled polished heating vessels.
