Chelonia

The group of reptiles that includes turtles, tortoises, and terrapins, characterized by a bony shell covering their bodies.

From Greek 'chelone' meaning turtle, derived from the ancient root referring to the shelled reptile. The term became the scientific classification name for this entire order of animals.
