Commanders

/kəˈmændərz/ noun

Military officers who have authority over a unit, base, or operation. Also refers to leaders in any hierarchical organization who have the power to direct others.

From Old French comandeor, from comander 'to command,' ultimately from Latin com- 'together' + mandare 'to commit, entrust.' The military rank developed in medieval times as armies became more organized and hierarchical structures emerged.
