Concerto

/kənˈtʃɛːtəʊ/ noun

A concerto is a piece of music written for one or more solo instruments accompanied by an orchestra. It usually has several sections, called movements, that show off the soloist’s skill.

From Italian 'concerto', from Latin 'concertare', meaning 'to contend, to work together'. Over time it came to describe a musical form where a soloist and orchestra both 'compete' and 'cooperate'.
