Corrie

/ˈkɒri/ noun

A cirque — a steep-sided hollow at the head of a valley or on a mountainside, formed by glacial erosion.

From Scottish Gaelic 'coire' (cauldron/kettle). Highland Scots saw these glacier-carved bowls in the mountains and called them 'cauldrons' — giant stone kettles carved by ice.
