Cover

To cover is to put something over or on top of something else to protect, hide, or fill it; it can also mean to include a topic or area.

From Old French “covrir,” from Latin “cooperire” (to cover completely), from “co-” (together) and “operire” (to shut, close). The core idea is closing something off with a layer.
