Something that covers, protects, or conceals; a layer or material placed over something else. Can also be a present participle of 'cover.'

From Old French 'covrir' (to cover), ultimately from Latin 'cooperire' meaning 'to cover completely,' composed of 'co-' (completely) and 'operire' (to close, cover).
