Cross laminated

/krɔs ˈlæməˌneɪtɪd/ adjective

A mass timber construction method where lumber boards are stacked in alternating perpendicular layers and bonded with adhesive, creating large structural panels. Cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels can function as walls, floors, and roofs in multi-story buildings.

From 'cross' (perpendicular arrangement) and 'laminated' (layered), the technique was developed in Austria in the 1990s. The term 'cross-laminated timber' became standardized as the technology spread internationally.
