Cynical

/ˈsɪnɪkəl/ adjective

Believing that people are mostly selfish and dishonest, and doubting that they really have good intentions.

From Latin 'cynicus', from Greek 'kynikos' meaning 'dog-like', originally referring to a school of philosophers who rejected social rules. Their sharp, biting criticism later gave 'cynical' its negative sense.
