Inflammation of the bladder, most commonly caused by bacterial infection, resulting in frequent urination, burning sensation during urination, and pelvic pain. It's much more common in women than men.
From Greek 'kystis' meaning 'bladder' and '-itis' meaning 'inflammation.' The term appeared in medical texts during the 18th century as urological conditions became better understood.
