To decrease in value over time, especially for money, property, or equipment. It can also mean to talk about something in a way that makes it seem less important or valuable.

From Late Latin *depretiare* meaning 'to lower the price of', from *de-* ('down') and *pretium* ('price'). It originally referred to reducing a price, then broadened to any loss of value.
