Disavowal

The act of denying any responsibility for or connection with something; a formal rejection or repudiation of a belief, claim, or allegation.

Formed from 'dis-' (opposite of) plus 'avowal' (open declaration), which comes from Old French 'avouer' (to acknowledge). The prefix reverses the meaning to create a denial or rejection of what was previously acknowledged.
