Shallow containers used for serving or cooking food. Can also refer to prepared foods served as part of a meal, or as a verb meaning to serve food.

From Old English 'disc' borrowed from Latin 'discus' (disk, plate) from Greek 'diskos' (disk). The culinary meaning evolved from the container to include the food served in it.
