Drifts

/drɪfts/ verb

Moves slowly and aimlessly, carried by air or water currents. Gradually moves away from a fixed point or original intention.

From Middle English 'drift', related to 'drive' and Old Norse 'drift' meaning 'snowdrift' or 'what is driven'. The sense of gradual, aimless movement developed from the observation of snow and debris being carried by wind.
