Egg

/ɛɡ/ noun

An oval reproductive body laid by birds, reptiles, and some fish; used widely as food; the earliest stage of something.

From Old Norse egg, replacing Old English æg. Both from Proto-Germanic ajja, from PIE owyo-m "egg." One of the few words English borrowed from Norse to replace a perfectly good native word.
